Mid-Plains Community College will cut the ribbon on McCook Community College’s East Campus Jan. 15.

The ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. inside the front entrance of East Campus, 905 E. 7th St., in McCook. Both the ceremony and accompanying tours are open to the public.

About the project

The campus was formerly the Elks Club. Constructed in the mid-1950s, the building is a two level, 29,000-square-foot building on about 14.5 acres. The building and surrounding property was donated by Perry and Vicky Case in 2015 to be used for educational purposes.

“The generous donation of this facility will allow the college to expand and enhance its nursing, emergency medical services and business and community education program offerings,” said MPCC President Ryan Purdy. “The main campus of McCook Community College is land-locked and our new East Campus will provide additional growth opportunities for our future.”

The total cost of the project including renovation, equipment and furnishing is estimated at $11.3 million, $9 million of which came from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, $1 million of which is from MPCC’s capital fund tax levy and the remainder in private donations.

The College and Foundations continue to fundraise for equipment and program resources for the facility. Those interested in contributing can contact MPCC Director of Institutional Advancement Haven Smith at smithh@mpcc.edu or (308) 535-3754.
