The art works of students from 19 area high schools are on display through April 11 at the Wrightstone Fine Arts Gallery on the McCook Community College campus.

Nearly 350 works of art created by students from 19 area high schools are on display through April 11 at the Wrightstone Fine Arts Gallery, 1208 E. Fifth Street (west and north side entrances), on the McCook Community College campus.

It’s part of MCC’s 50th anniversary of the annual High School Art Show and Paint-In. The art show is up, free and open to the public at the Wrightstone Gallery from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

MCC’s annual Art Show and Paint-In culminates on April 11 with 20 schools coming to campus and participating in the paint-in competition at the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center. Teams will create murals on eight-foot by four-foot sheets of paper based on a theme announced by this year’s judge: McCook native and MCC Art Alum Morgan (Pearson) Neverve, who is an art teacher in Beatrice.

An awards ceremony for the works on display in the Wrightstone Gallery and for the paint-in will be April 11 at 1 p.m. in the Events Center.

Teams scheduled to compete in this year’s paint-in include: Southwest, Chase County, Cambridge, Southern Valley, Norton, McCook, Hitchcock County, Medicine Valley, Sutherland, Ogallala, Wauneta-Palisade, Maywood, Dundy County, Wallace, Lexington, Arapahoe, Brady, Decatur Community, Perkins County and Wray, Colo.
