Rodeo teams finish second to open spring season

Ames, Iowa – The Mid-Plains Community College rodeo teams opened their spring season this past weekend at the Cyclone Stampede in Ames, Iowa.

The men’s team finished second in the team standings behind strong performances from Koy McAllister, Jackson Lunn, Kahiwa Augustiro and Wyatt Davis. The women’s team narrowly missed the top spot, finishing just 10 points behind Iowa Central.

Koy McAllister led the No. 2 nationally ranked men’s team with a first-place finish in saddle bronc, posting a score of 142. Teammate Wyatt Davis claimed the jackpot and closed out the weekend as the only cowboy to complete a qualifying ride in the bull riding event.

In bareback riding, Jackson Lunn brought home the silver buckle earning 145 points, while Kahiwa Augustiro closed out the event with a fourth-place finish.

On the women’s side, Whitney Jennings led the way with a second-place finish in breakaway. Samantha Gerlach also secured a runner-up finish in barrel racing, clocking a time of 28.15 seconds.

The rodeo teams will take a week off before returning to action at the Jackrabbit Stampede in Brookings, S.D. April 10-11.
