Lunn takes home two gold buckles at MPCC Stampede

North Platte, Neb. – Jackson Lunn of Whitecourt, Alberta proved once again why he’s among the top bareback riders in collegiate rodeo, earning two first-place finishes in the bareback event at the MPCC Stampede rodeo this past weekend.

Lunn posted an impressive 80.5-point ride to win the opening rodeo, then followed it up with scores of 85 and 69 to complete the weekend sweep in the event.

Kahiwa Augustiro also had a strong showing, placing fourth in the first rodeo and third overall in bareback across the weekend. He claimed the all-around title in the second rodeo with a first-place finish in steer wrestling and a second-place finish in team roping alongside Jace Richter.

The rodeo team flexed their dominance in the team roping event on Saturday as Kaehu Dejesus-Beaudet and Ryatt Fraser earned the gold buckle with the best average time of 17.0 seconds.   

In bull riding, Trace Scarlavai began the weekend with a second-place finish behind teammate Wyatt Davis, but stole the gold buckle on Saturday with a high-scoring 86-point ride.

On the women’s side, Laynee Ohm led the charge with a first-place finish in goat tying during the first rodeo. Whitney Jennings added to the momentum by capturing first place in breakaway, while Bailey Barker rounded out the top five in the same event.

The women’s team won the first rodeo with 290 points. The men’s team placed second behind Bismarck State. In the second rodeo, the men came roaring back, scoring 1,005 points—beating second-place Iowa Central by a dominant 550-point margin.

The MPCC Rodeo Team will enjoy a week off from competition before heading to Dickinson, North Dakota, for the Dickinson State University Rodeo, Sept. 26–27.
