The McCook Community College volleyball team is asking fans to wear purple to Friday night’s 6 p.m. match against Otero when the team hosts “Stella Night.”

This night is to bring awareness and support to Stella McConnell, an elementary student, who is battling cancer.

Since she loves unicorns, area businesses are helping the team raise money for the Stella and her family with the sale of unicorn-themed doughnuts and popcorn. Pre-ordering of doughnuts is required by 6 p.m. Wednesday. You can pick up and pay for doughnuts between 5:30-6:15 p.m. Friday. Individual doughnuts as well as bags of popcorn will be available for sale at the match. All proceeds will go to the McConnell family.

The team is asking for community members to gather for the extended “Team Stella” photo that will be staged on the west side of the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center bleachers just prior to the match.
