Mid-Plains Community College will break ground on the new electrical building Nov. 20. The public is invited to attend the ceremony at 4:30 p.m. on the west side the W.W. Wood building.

Due to construction, parking will be limited. Guests are asked to park on the south or east side of the main building on NPCC’s North Campus, 1101 Halligan Drive.

Meeting the need

The Electrical Technology program has operated out of the existing facility since 1979. Since then, the program has grown to include an Electrical Automation degree and continues to operate full classes with an occasional wait list of students.

As the demand for residential and commercial electricians has increased, so has the need to adequately train those professionals.

By constructing a new facility, the program can accept additional students and grow partnerships with local high schools to deliver career exploration opportunities. The additional space will also offer state-of-the-art technology and give instructors the space to continue to grow the program, thus meeting the needs of area employers.

The total cost of the building is estimated at $3.7 million.

The North Platte Community College Foundation is continuing to fundraise for the project. Those interested in making a contribution can call (308) 535-3720.
