Works from McCook High School artists were installed Monday and this exhibition will be up through March 14. A public reception is set for March 14 from 4-8 p.m. The exhibition is free of charge and open to the public.
The Wrightstone is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. each day Monday through Friday.
MCC Art Instructor Rick Johnson has also announced the dates for three other shows this spring at the gallery.
MCC’s annual High School Paint-In Exhibition will be March 31 through April 11 with the Paint-in Competition set for April 11 from 8:45 a.m. – noon with the awards ceremony at 1 p.m.
Each year artists from area high schools are invited to display a variety of works in this exhibition. This results in more than 250 pieces of art on display. The works are judged with four awards are given in each of seven categories: painting, drawing, prints/printmaking, mixed media, pottery, three-dimensional works and digital/photography.
On the last day of the exhibit, artists from participating schools meet in the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center for the paint-in competition. A theme is announced and teams create an eight-foot by four-foot mural. The awards ceremony recognizes the winners in the Wrightstone exhibit categories as well as the top four teams in the paint-in competition.
From April 21-May 2, MCC’s annual sophomore portfolio and thesis capstone takes place at the gallery with pieces from graduating sophomores on display. That two-week exhibition culminates in the oral defense forum May 2 from 1-4 p.m. when the students defend their works and talk about their techniques, motivations, and their rationale. The exhibit and the oral defense forum is open to the public.
The MCC Graphic Design student exhibition will take place May 5-May 9 at the Wrightstone Gallery. This exhibition will feature the works of freshmen and sophomore students and a variety of their works from throughout the year.
There is no admission for any of these exhibitions which are open to the public from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
