As a nursing assistant you will be providing assistance with every day cares to include but not limited to: grooming, bathing, dressing, eating, and walking. This course will provide training for a non-licensed individual to provide safe, effective, and caring services to patients, residents, and clients in a variety of health care settings.
Upon successful completion of our 76 hour course, students will receive a certificate of completion from MPCC and qualify to take the examination for placement on the State of Nebraska Nurse Aide Registry. The Nursing Assistant course if approved through the Department of Health and Human Services of Nebraska. For many, working as a nursing assistant is a rewarding career choice. For others, the nursing assistant course is a stepping stone to advance in the healthcare field.
Medication AideThe Medication Aide class is an advanced step from the nursing assistant. As a Medication Aide, you still provide the cares you learned in Nursing Assistant but you add on the task of administering medications. A medication Aide will provide medication while working under the direction of a licensed health care professional.
This course is intended to meet the minimum 40-hour training requirements by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services for individuals who provide medications in a nursing home, an Intermediate Care Facility or an Assisted Living Facility.
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Cannot have been convicted of a crime rationally related to their practice involving moral turpitude.
- Must be able to speak and understand the English language or a language understood by a substantial portion of the facility’s residents without the use of an interpreter or interpretive device.
- Must successfully complete a basic nursing assistant training and testing approved by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Regulation and Licensure Division of Public Health.
- Attendance is mandatory to be in compliance with state regulations Medication Aide
- Must be 18 years of age - Must pass a Medication Aide course of 40 hours in length
- Must pass a state exam
- Must be knowledgeable of the 10 competencies and the basic routes.
- Attendance mandatory to be in compliance with state regulations.
This class allows you to work in the state of Nebraska. If you plan to work outside of the state of Nebraska you will need to check with that particular states DHHS for transferability.
We offer the state testing for Nursing Assistants who are registered in another state and wanting to transfer in to Nebraska. We also offer the same testing for Nebraska nurse aides and medication aides that have let their registry lapse. Please contact the Program Coordinator for questions or scheduling of these tests.
As a Nursing Assistant or Medication Aide you can work in a variety of healthcare settings to include but not limited to: Long Term care facilities, Assisted Living facilities, Home Health, In Home care, Hospitals, Clinics and more. Our Program Coordinator and faculty have a great professional working relationship with many of the regional healthcare facilities and can make recommendations/referrals for job placement upon completion of the class.
