Law Enforcement Education Waiver

This tuition waiver is provided to eligible law enforcement officers, pursuant to the terms of Nebraska LB906 (2016) and LB1273 (2022). Those who qualify are entitled to a credit of 100% of tuition charges after subtracting awarded federal financial aid grants and state scholarships and grants. The waiver covers tuition only, not any associated fees.

For purposes of the program, a law enforcement officer is any person who is responsible for the prevention or detection of crime or the enforcement of the penal, traffic, or highway laws of the State of Nebraska or any political subdivision of the state for more than one hundred hours per year and who is authorized by law to make arrests.

Students seeking this waiver must apply annually and must comply with all College requirements for continued attendance. A student may receive the waiver for up to five years if the student otherwise continues to be eligible for participation.

Instructions

Any student requesting a law enforcement tuition waiver must:

  1. Complete and sign the application form;
  2. Have the student’s superior officer at the law enforcement agency at which the student is employed sign the certification at the end of this form attesting to the student’s satisfactory performance as a law enforcement officer; and
  3. Return the form no later than the start of the term of your enrollment.

The form certifies that the applicant is a law enforcement officer responsible for the prevention or detection of crime or the enforcement of the penal, traffic, or highway laws of the State of Nebraska or any political subdivision of the state for more than one hundred hours per year and is authorized by law to make arrests; is currently employed by a municipality, sheriff’s office, or the Nebraska State Patrol as a law enforcement officer; and is pursuing an associate degree program that relates to a career in law enforcement.

The form is available here and must be returned to the Mid-Plains Community College Financial Aid Office at 1205 East 3rd Street, McCook, NE 69001, via email to finaid@mpcc.edu, or uploaded to the student’s Financial Aid Portal no later than the start of the term of your enrollment.
